Emergency plumber in Mineral Wells: what to do first

Steps for the first ten minutes of a burst pipe, overflow or sewer backup, and how to find a licensed plumber quickly.

Please read: This is an independent informational guide. It is not a plumbing company, does not perform or offer plumbing work, does not hold a plumbing license, and does not send, schedule, or recommend any plumber. Listing here is not an endorsement, and no one paid to be listed. Contact any business directly, and always verify its license with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) before hiring.

First steps

  1. Stop the water. Close the fixture valve (under sinks or behind the toilet) if the leak is at one fixture. Otherwise close the main shutoff, usually where the water line enters the house or at the meter box near the street.
  2. Watch out for electricity. Stay out of standing water near outlets or appliances. Shut off a breaker only if you can stay dry doing it.
  3. If you smell gas, leave the house first and call your gas utility from outside.
  4. Drain and document. Open a low faucet to relieve pressure, and take photos and video for insurance.
  5. Sewer backup? Stop running water and flushing until a licensed plumber checks the line.
