Please read: This is an independent informational guide. It is not a plumbing company, does not perform or offer plumbing work, does not hold a plumbing license, and does not send, schedule, or recommend any plumber. Listing here is not an endorsement, and no one paid to be listed. Contact any business directly, and always verify its license with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) before hiring.
Common warning signs
- A water bill that's higher than usual with no change in how you use water
- The sound of running water when every fixture is off
- Warm or damp spots on floors, or flooring that lifts or stains
- New cracks in floors or walls
- Water pressure that's lower than usual
The meter test
- Turn off every faucet, appliance, toilet, and irrigation system.
- Look at the meter's leak indicator or dial and write down the reading.
- Wait about an hour without using any water, then check again. Movement suggests a leak somewhere, though not necessarily under the slab.
General information, not professional advice. Only a licensed plumber's diagnosis can confirm a slab leak.
Questions to ask before slab work
- "What is your Texas master plumber license number?" Then check it (steps below).
- "Will you pull the City of Mineral Wells permit?" Repairs to a plumbing system require one (see below).
- "How will you locate the leak, and will you reroute the line or repair it through the slab?"
- "Can I get the estimate in writing?"
City of Mineral Wells: a plumbing permit is required before any installation, alteration, repair, replacement, addition or remodel of a plumbing system, and all plumbing work must be completed by a licensed Master Plumber registered with the City ("Do You Need a Permit"). First inspection requests: (940) 328-7715 or inspections@mineralwellstx.gov (Building Permits).
